The Power Of Words

Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

Here's my problem: I say what I'm thinking before I actually stop and think about what I'm going to say. Sometimes it's funny because I say what everyone else is thinking when it's actually "improper" to mention out loud. Other times, however, my words can be downright hurtful. Scripture tells me that I need to be careful with what comes out of my mouth. It's easier said than done, isn't it? It's easy to quickly lash back at someone who's hurt you. God wants us to only speak words that will build others up, though. That takes strength, maturity, and lots of help from God. Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to help you encourage people and build them up rather than tear them down.

Honestly, how do your words affect people? You know how it feels when other people's words affect you, so what do you need to do to stop the cycle and respond with love instead?
