Pleasing God

Ephesians 5:10-12 "...find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret."

Earlier today I was in the car listening to a popular stand-up comedian. Most of his jokes were based on crude inappropriate sexual humour and this verse came to mind. Ephesians 5 reminded me that it is shameful to even mention what the disobedient do in secret. For me to even listen to the comedian make light of sinful acts is wrong. I am to have "nothing to do with the fruitless deeds" and instead do whatever pleases the Lord.

This is often easier said than done, though. It's so easy to laugh at what I see on TV, hear on the radio and even relay stories of sinfulness to others. With the Lord's help, I pray I will always pursue things that please the Lord and refuse to find entertainment in deeds of darkness.

Do you often find yourself enjoying entertainment that makes light of sinful situations, such as premarital sex and homosexuality? How can you weed these things from your life and strive to only please God in all that you do?
