The Impact of Positive Words

Sep 21 | Posted by: MGMT |

Ephesians 4:29, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

Sometimes it's hard to understand the incredible impact of our words. I'm sure each of us can think back to a time when someone said something to us that was extremely hurtful and maybe even left an impression that continues today. Maybe someone said you are fat and ugly and to this day you still believe it. Or maybe someone told you that they hate you and now you still feel insecure around friends.

The opposite is also true. When people say positive and encouraging things about us, it also may leave a lasting impression for years to come or even the rest of our lives. When I was a little boy, someone told me that I was a great leader and had a lot of natural leadership ability. Because of that comment, I started taking an interest in leadership and since then have successfully led many groups, teams and organizations.

Before you say something to someone, take a second to think about the consequences your words may have. Pray today and ask the Lord to help you only speak words that are encouraging and uplifting to those who hear them. Resolve to impact people's lives with your words in only positive ways. After all, isn't this how you would like others to speak to you? How about you start it today and maybe others will catch on.

How have other people's words affected you either for good or for bad? Have you ever encouraged someone and seen the positive results of it?
